Learn interesting and informative facts during your 60 minute drive towards the ancient Mayan Ruins of Lamanai from Belize City.
Set on the banks of the great New river Lagoon, your adventure begins when you hop aboard the motorized boat for a spectacular 26-mile boat ride up the New River through the Belize rainforest traveling to the Lamanai Ruins. Travel through miles of virgin river fauna & flora, viewing majestic trees with overhanging air plants and colourful Orchids. Your guide will highlight the wild life of the New River such as the howler and spider monkey, turtles, hawks, kites, falcons, iguana, crocodile and exotic birds.
After lunch, hike to the temples of Lamanai with your guide to the On-site Museum which contains Mayan Artifacts discovered during the site excavation and history of the Lamanai Ruins. Climb the Mask Temple adorned by a 13-foot stone mask of an ancient Maya king, the High Temple offering visitors a panoramic view from its summit, the Ball Court, the residential area and the Jaguar Temple named for its boxy jaguar decoration. Climb the 125ft Mayan temple above the jungle canopy for a spectacular view of the surrounding jungle and lagoon. While you climb look out for the Howler monkeys and the colorful Toucans that are predominant in the Belizean Jungle.
